The Plum Guide is building a marketplace of the world’s best holiday homes. For real!

We are taking a systematic and obsessive approach to testing every single home on the planet and accepting only the top 1%. We do so by putting every home through The Plum Test: a gruelling hospitality exam, which uses a mix of algorithms and physical visits by hospitality experts. (Check out our 54 second video.)

We launched 24 months ago in London. Since, we have grown at 15-20% month on month, vetted over 100,000 homes and reached over £13m in annualised sales. We are backed by an all-star cast investor group including Local Globe (TransferWise, OneFineStay, Citymapper), Alex Chesterman (Founder of Zoopla), William Reeve (Founder of Love Film), Alex Saint and Troy Collins (Founders of Secret Escapes), Errol Damlin (Founder of Wonga), Jason Goodman (Founder of Albion) and many more.

We closed our Series A round of funding in December, and now the real work begins. We want to transform our product’s experience and look & feel to rival the world’s most iconic digital brands. That’s where you come in.

The role

As a Product Designer at Plum, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the vision for the product and bringing it to life systematically. This is a highly entrepreneurial role that will quickly evolve and morph as the business develops. But to bring it to life a little, here is some of what you can expect to be doing:

  • Lead UX and UI across devices: from rapid MVP experiments to learn what moves the needle, through to concepting new features and ultimately a full product redesign. Projects may, for example, include:

    • Reimagining the homepage experience from scratch

    • Rethinking how users search and explore places to travel, as we open new cities monthly

    • Architecting a frictionless checkout experience

    • Concepting, prototyping, launching and optimising entirely new sub-products

    • Creating, evolving and maintaining a component-based design system

  • Alongside our Product Director, run regular user testing sessions and research projects to get under the skin of our target audience and validate product decisions

  • Eventually growing to build out a world-class product design team here at Plum

Who we are looking for

We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You find the idea of building one of the world’s most iconic digital products insanely motivating

  • You have 5+ years experience in product design: creating and shipping beautiful designs across multiple platforms (web, iOS, Android, email etc...)

  • You’re:

    • a passionate and strategic product thinker, with a critical eye for the details

    • a good listener, prepared to work quickly and efficiently, and enjoy creative problem solving

    • ego-free, and actively want your ideas to be tested and validated

  • You’re obsessed with UX, and:

    • naturally curious about different people, their motivations, intuitions and behaviour

    • bursting with fresh inspiration from the world’s best products

    • actively interested in the latest patterns, interactions and paradigms

    • micro-interactions and all of the subtle details flick your switch

Measuring success

Plum is a design-led company, but right now we’d give ourselves a 1/10 for the look, feel and sophistication of our digital product.

So what does success look like? You will have hit the ball out of the park if after 12 months you have revolutionised the experience of our digital product to such an extent that:

  1. 90% of our customers rate their booking experience a 9 or 10/10

  2. Our site conversion has doubled (we can explain more when we meet)

  3. 90% of our customers describe the (digital) Plum experience as highly differentiated and engaging
