We are taking a systematic and obsessive approach to testing every single home on the planet, accepting only the top 1%. We do so by putting every home through The Plum Test: a gruelling hospitality exam, which uses a mix of algorithms and physical visits by hospitality experts.

We launched just over two years ago in London. Since then, we have grown at 15% month on month, expanded to six cities, vetted over 100,000 homes and are on track to reach over £20m in annualised sales. We are backed by an all-star cast investor group including Local Globe (TransferWise, OneFineStay, Citymapper), Alex Chesterman (Founder of Zoopla), William Reeve (Founder of Love Film), Alex Saint and Troy Collins (Founders of Secret Escapes), Errol Damlin (Founder of Wonga), Jason Goodman (Founder of Albion) and many more. At the end of 2017, we raised a £6M Series A round from world-class VCs Octopus Group and BGF.

We’re launching our global role out strategy, and need to quickly systematise this machine so we can open a city a month by next year. This is where you come in.

The Role

The General Manager plays three key roles: managing the team and sales in their market, innovating our offering, and helping codify the Plum process for international roll out.

You will have hit the ball out of the park if after 12 months you have:

  1. Hit your targets for your city:

    • Grown revenues by 15% month on month

    • Cut even (you will be responsible for the city P&L)

    • Attained a NPS in the top percentile of the travel industry

    • Got over 20% of our collection to go exclusive

  2. Become an innovation engine for the business: having invented, launched and rolled out significant quality and process improvements.

  3. Helped produce a “scalable” play-book: In 12 months we want to be launch a city a month. To do that, we need to systematise the launch and management process of new cities. You will have a critical role in using your London experience to help codify the Plum process.

What you’ll be up to

This is a highly entrepreneurial role that will quickly evolve and morph as the business develops. However, to bring it to life, here is what you can expect to be doing:

  • Develop a home acquisition strategy: study the performance of the stock in your city in order to develop a home acquisition plan.

  • Sign-up 1000+ new Plum worthy homes: track and be responsible for weekly & monthly targets.

  • Lead an obsessive team of home critics (testers), photographers, stylists, and host acquisition managers to find the best homes in your city and merchandise them beautifully.

  • Create new B2B partnerships with management companies, apart-hotels, boutique hotels and apartment suites.

  • Design and successfully implement our “exclusives” program: a program designed to convince 20% of our stock to become exclusive to Plum.

  • Become an engine of innovation. Specifically, improve:

    • our host onboarding process

    • the quality of our editorial and photography

    • the quality and accuracy of information we collect during the testing process 2

    • the host experience

  • Obsess about improving the NPS score in your city, by obtaining guest and host feedback.

  • Contribute to the expansion Playbook: helping codify the Plum way, so we can roll out new cities.

  • Work with the tech/product team to brief, design, and build new features.

You don’t need to have prior experience in hospitality or tech start ups. The important thing is that you are:

  • Scarily ambitious and with an unreasonably high standard for what is good enough.

  • Highly analytical: can deconstruct problems logically and solve them using data, insight and gut.

  • Super entrepreneurial: You care about getting shit done. And when obstacles inevitably get in the way, you know how to hustle.

  • Unbelievably persuasive: You are great at convincing and selling, both face to face and in writing.

  • A strong 360 grasp of business: finance, marketing, brand, operations, strategy and product.

  • Super organized: able to project manage complex processes with multiple stakeholders.

  • Target driven and intensely commercial.

  • A self-starting learner: confident teaching yourself to do things you have never done before. Daily.

  • A sophisticated taste in design, interiors, food and cultural experiences.

  • Experienced at leading teams and managing people for success.
